Faith and Practice Donations
Each year, Faith and Practice is provided with a budget from RDM. It then has the task and the privilege of making decisions regarding recipients for those funds. We try to choose local, national and international organizations and strive to include groups that have some connection with First Presbyterian of Wooster.
Last year we were honored to add a new organization, one that has a very close connection to our church. When we asked David for any suggestions he might have, we were delighted to receive this reply:
My father started the work on La Gonâve for the PC(USA) back in the 1990s (a link to that history is https://lagonavepartners.org/history/ ) and the health center was named in honor of him shortly after he died. I have made 3 trips to Haiti and La Gonâve myself, twice with my father and once with my mother to dedicate the health center. As with all of Haiti, financial conditions are dire, and food is
always scarce.
La Gonâve is a small island off the coast of Haiti that, like the rest of the country, struggles with extreme poverty. La Gonâve Haiti Partners focuses their efforts on four areas: healthcare, education, economic development, and infrastructure. BILL RICE HEALTH CENTER
The Health Center is located in the community of Nouvelle Cite; it is the headquarters for the network of healthcare services provided by its staff to the people and communities of La Gonâve. The Health Center houses a laboratory, pharmacy, an emergency treatment area, overnight observation beds, a birthing room, multiple exam rooms, offices and rooms for overnight staff.
