Solar Electric Panels

There are three installations in First Presbyterian homes: Bill and Carla Hall, Brian and Becky Webb, and Roy Haynes. Ken Shafer, a member of Westminster, provided data about his system. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Because the electric generation companies have influence, any system installed, where those companies provide back-up power, can be only a size to generate the average yearly need. Another negative is that solar tax credits were cancelled by the current administration. A Google search reveals the names of three near-by companies that install solar panels. Also, one can fill out a form that will provide estimates of the cost of a solar system.

The Halls have a system, installed in 2020, that meets their needs well. They have a battery storage system, which can serve as a power source if there is a blackout and the sun isn’t shining. The Webb’s system, consisting of 10 panels was installed a few months ago. The panels are east facing and are rated at 2.9 kwh. Roy’s system consists of 12 panels and is six years old. It’s rated at 3.96 kwh. His panels also face east. During a typical year he pays only the service fee from April into October or November. Ken has the most extensive system: 35 panels, rated at 18 kw and facing south, and installed in 2018. He also has a battery back-up system. His system meets 75% of his needs, which includes charging the batteries in his EV car. Again, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
