On behalf of OneEighty and the Salvation Army, the Wooster Homelessness Task Force is currently recruiting volunteers and soliciting support in preparation for opening the Severe Weather Shelter during the upcoming winter months. Beginning in December, on nights when the temperature "feels like" it's below 20 °F, the shelter, located at the Salvation Army, will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. to welcome our unsheltered citizens in from the cold.
Volunteers are needed from 6-10 p.m. to welcome those seeking shelter from the cold. In addition, churches will be providing a warm meal. The decision on which nights to open the shelter will be made two days in advance, based on the weather forecast. Initial training will be held Nov. 1. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Carla Hall at 614-761-3906, firstname.lastname@example.org, or see the sign-up bulletin board at church. Or you may contact Major Connie Higgins at the Salvation Army, 330-264-4704 or email@example.com. Financial support for this service comes primarily from local donors. Please help us to provide those less fortunate among us with a warm, safe place to rest their heads on the coldest of nights this winter.
